A work colleague and I do this thing about once a week.
"Want some good news?" one of us will text the other.
The answer is always involves all caps followed by exclamation marks. "YES PLEASE!!!" "OH YES I DO!!!" "ALWAYS!!!"
Equine news this year has been disappointing. (Yes, yes, you in the back. There have been good things, too.) From bad training caught on video to the recent screwworm detection in Mexico, I've really had enough. I feel it seeping into my mood when I read too much weird stuff. I crave positive stories.
And I'm not the only one. A 2012 study at Brigham Young University linked positive outlook, happiness, and higher life satisfaction when people share their positive experiences with one another. What I really love about this is that both the news teller and the news receiver feel positive effects from this.
This is the "Good News Effect." Good news makes us feel better and reduces stress and anxiety. It makes us feel more positive about the world, more energized, and creates healthier engagement between people online (desperately need more of that).
So, if you will, please join me in delivering some positive equine news to your circle, delivering easily digestible positivity to one another. What a gift!
